What is AWS?
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a subsidiary of Amazon, which is one of the richest American multinational technology companies that mainly focuses on cloud computing, e-commerce, AI, and a lot more. Amazon Web Services aims in providing cloud computing services and services in the areas of API – application programming interface. API is a software interface that is used in all computing devices for the communication between computer programs in the system.
What is cloud computing?
Cloud computing is a source of various kinds of services through the internet. These services are related to data storage, networking, software, and a lot more. Cloud computing can also help in protecting confidential data through encryption and this process is constantly used in the multinational companies which work on a large scale with loads of data.
Impact and applications of AWS
- Global accessibility – AWS has a widespread framework which covers almost all the parts of the world. This makes it accessible from every part of the world. Communication between the cloud-based servers is highly useful to increase global accessibility.
- Lesser investments – Since these services are cloud based, large organisations can save plenty of money in software and hardware components. They need not pay any money in installing systems to solve the purpose of data management.
- Enhanced security – There is a large amount of data that must be handled by companies on a daily basis, and majority of these files are confidential. AWS provides a very secure work environment where data transfer happens between clients in a very systematic manner.
- Larger storage and backup facilities – Since AWS works on a cloud-based system of managing data, there is an added advantage of storing these data and accessing it in an easier way. These servers are not solely dependent on the user or company but can also be managed directly by the vendors. Hence, there are a lot of backup options in case of any violation of data breach or information leakage.
- Scalability – With this feature, organisations are now finding it very easy to take care of their investments and mainly their growth rate. They now need not depend on other departments to analyse their roadmap of profits and losses because AWS is very efficient in providing these services as well. Hence, companies can save time by not planning their future goals or targets. They can spend this valuable time in any other sector which needs some improvement.
One of the most trending topics in the present generation is about big data analysis, or just data analytics. AWS is one such service provider that has solved almost 75% of this problem with their top-class services which are globally preferred. Their e-commerce services have grown immensely at present. Let us now look into how AWS will be useful in the future and what changes can it cause in the global economy.
- Development of social and web applications – This is period of globalisation and technology has come into extensive use across the world. Every age group of people are seen around with mobile phones and are active on various social media platforms. AWS now provides quality services in developing such applications which will be useful to connect two individuals at different parts of the world.
- Gaming – There has been a drastic increase in the downloads of gaming applications currently because of its popularity and the level of entertainment which it provides. AWS services also cater to the development of gaming apps which will be a source of entertainment for youngsters who can even choose gaming as a career.
- Enterprises – Every locality is developing at a quick pace along with population explosion and several enterprises are being set up for the benefit of the people. The working of these enterprises was very slow paced initially, but with the invent of AWS, there is going to be a tremendous change in the functioning of these enterprises. Since they cater to only small locations, AWS has been constantly working on these aspects and will do so in due course.
- Big data – As mentioned earlier, a large amount of data gets generated by corporates every single day because of the expansion of growth in the industries. This requires a highly intelligent team to analyse and sort the data so that communication between the sectors inside a corporate becomes more efficient, thereby increasing the success rates of the company.
Conclusion
Amazon web services was founded in the early 2000s, approximately between 2000 to 2005, when globalisation had started, and companies were finding a problem in managing the data which was being generated by their firms on a daily basis. AWS started focusing on problems related to computing, storage, data analysis, machine learning, computational tools, etc. During the initial phase, AWS mainly dealt with small companies with a moderate amount of data. Until 2010, they weren’t able to expand their services to other countries until Amazon.com’s retail sales were migrated to AWS. This caused a boom in their services, and they had a chance to create an impact on other countries along with their services. Amazon Web Services grew at a drastic rate during this period of time (2010 – 2015), and they were able to strike a deal with Netflix for a 100% infrastructure transfer. Their revenue now was valued at around $1.5 billion. Since then, AWS has received several deals pertaining to their cloud computing services and they have expanded their services on a large scale. They are presently rated highly in the technical service provider industry and will continue to do so in the days and years to come.
